Notes: Sitting MP James Hoskins contested Patrick's Plains. Robert Wisdom was re-elected as MP for Lower Hunter two days after the close of nominations in this seat. He subsequently resigned from this seat, so he has not been shown as a sitting MP for this contest.
Source: Report of nominations, SMH 29 December 1869, p.5 col.2-4. The Gold Fields electorates were the last to hold a poll and the results were poorly reported. There were hopelessly incomplete returns in the Empire (11 January 1870, p. 2, col. 4 and 12 January, p. 2, col. 4) and in the Maitland Mercury. The Empire, 17 January, p. 2, col. 5 simply states that Wisdom had a majority of 67, but none of the papers went into further detail. The result was probably in the Armidale Express, but the relevant issue is not available. The result used here was found re-printed in the Armidale Express with the result of the subsequent by-election, published 23 April 1870, p.2 col.1.
Corrections: Need to resolve whether Wisdom was nominated with or without his consent. Note slight discrepancy between Newspaper and Statistical Register totals of votes.
