Cause Category: Resignation - Other
Notes: Caused by the resignation of John Peisley. (Reason not known)
Source: Empire, 30 June 1862, p. 4, col. 6, which gives these figures under the heading 'state of the poll'. The report also states that many electors were not able to record a vote before polls closed. This may explain the small number of votes. The Empire, 1 July 1862, p. 4, col. 6 reports the DOP, but gives no figures. The report does state that Martin's majority was 93, suggesting these results are relatively correct.
Corrections: Candidate reported as Mr Furlong, but think this is most likely to be William Forlonge.
