Cause Category: Resignation - Financial difficulties
Notes: Caused by the resignation of Thomas Lewis. Lewis had been the President of the Newcastle Coal Miners' Association when elected in 1860. In the era before payment of MPs, Lewis relied on subscriptions of supporters, and he was forced to resign when these dried up.
