Notes: Edward Hargraves was the discoverer of gold in NSW and was put forward locals on the nomination hustings as a fourth candidate, possibly with the intent of causing an election to be held. Wags also nominated Henry Parkes, with Parkes having a letter published in the Maitland Mercury 2 February urging electors to vote for Richard Jones.
