Notes: Plunkett served in the old Legislative Council as an appointed member. He was also elected to represent Bathurst County on the same day. After attending the first sitting of Parliament representing both seats, and even attempting to use both votes in the ballot for Speaker, Plunkett resigned as MP for Argyle and represented Bathurst.
Source: Report of nominations, SMH 1 April 1856 p.3 col.4-5, continued 2 April p.5 col.3-5. Results taken from Goulburn Herald, 8 April 1856, p.3 col.1 reporting the declaration of poll and matching the total of votes recorded in the 1857 Blue Book. Other papers published earlier Goulburn Herald results that had Plunkett polling 186, a figure repeated in the SMH election summary, 30 April p.5 col.1.
