Qualifications, occupations and interests

Was on the Bench of Magistrates. He built Bedervale Homestead in 1836 on a land grant he selected in 1826 at Braidwood. It was designed by architect John Verge who also designed Camden Park at Menangle and Elizabeth Bay House at Sydney. The property is still privately owned but houses a National Trust of Australia collection.

Personal

Captain John Coghill was the Master of the convict transport ship 'Mangles', making four voyages to New South Wales from 1820 to 1826. He was granted land in 1822 and settled permanently in New South Wales in about 1826. Married with issue, 4 daughters. The dates of his birth and death are not known.
