Commissioned as a Justice of the Peace in Queensland 4 February 1862.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Naval Officer. Educated at Royal Naval College in Portsmouth; In 1835 entered naval service of HMS Barham and the Meditteranean Fleet; in 1839 resigned and joined his brother Frederick in New South Wales; in 1840 went to Queensland to Mount Brisbane station; In August 1842 had an affray with bushrangers; in 1873 returned to Cockington in Devon, England; leaving A.Raff as agent; in 1909 sold the run to a cousin and McConnel. Member of the North Australian and Queensland Clubs
Membership of other Parliaments & Offices Held
Member of the Parliament of Queensland. Member of the Queensland Legislative Council 1 May 1860 - 16 May 1873 (resigned). Reappointed for life.
Personal
Son of Thomas Hanway, gentleman, and Charlotte Scott. Married Elizabeth Barbara Ord in Leicester, England. and had no issue. Church of England.
