In 1844 was commissioned as president of the Pastoralists' Association.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Entrepreneur. By 1824 was a stockbroker in London where he also had an interest in the St Georges Steam Packet Company. Formed in November 1841 the Australian Wool Company. Arrived in Port Jackson on 15 June 1842. By May 1844 he had become one of the largest landholders and graziers of the colony. Had financial difficulties and became bankrupt and decided to try his luck on the Californian Goldfields. Was purportedly murdered by natives in the Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands.

Born around 1803 (the exact date is unknown). Second son of Edward Boyd, a London merchant of Merton Hall, Wigtownshire, Scotland, and his wife Janet Yule, daughter of Benjamin Yule of Wheatfield, Midlothian, Scotland. Unmarried.
