Motion by the Hon. SHAOQUETT MOSELMANE agreed to:
That this House notes that:
(a) the inaugural Australian Council of Trade Unions [ACTU] Youth Congress was held at the Sydney Trades Hall on 14 May 2012,
(b) the purpose of the Youth Congress was to:
(i) engage with and empower young people about their role in unions,
(ii) build a new type of collectivism that brings unionism firmly into the twenty first century,
(c) the Australian Council of Trade Unions Youth Congress was attended by young workers and union members from across Australia and was a prelude to the Australian Council of Trade Unions Congress 2012, and
(d) guest speakers at the Australian Council of Trade Unions Youth Congress included:
(i) Ged Kearney, Australian Council of Trade Unions President,
(ii) Paul Howes, National Secretary of the Australian Workers' Union,
(iii) Josh Peak, Australian Council of Trade Unions Executive Member and Youth Committee Chair.
