MEMBER FOR COOGEE ELECTION CAMPAIGN DONATION

Dr JOHN KAYE: My question without notice is directed to the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, representing the Premier. My question relates to revelations by Liberal Party councillors on Randwick City Council that their colleague and the member for Coogee, Bruce Notley-Smith, received a donation during the last State election campaign from the Coaches and Horses Hotel in Randwick. Can the Minister confirm what date the member for Coogee received this donation?

The Hon. MICHAEL GALLACHER: The constituents of Coogee are lucky to have a new local member in Bruce Notley-Smith. What a great job he did on Randwick City Council, and what a fantastic job he is doing in the electorate of Coogee. What was the swing in the electorate of Coogee? It must have been off the Richter magnitude scale. I am sure there would be someone in the House who will know. Be that as it may, people of that electorate are blessed to have a member of the calibre of Bruce Notley-Smith. He will long be the member for Coogee because he genuinely cares about the electorate.

Dr John Kaye: Point of order. The issue is relevance. My question related to the date on which Mr Bruce Notley-Smith received a donation from the Coach and Horses Hotel in Randwick, not about his qualities as a local member.

The PRESIDENT: Order! The Minister is reminded of the need to be generally relevant in his answer to the question.

The Hon. MICHAEL GALLACHER: Thank you for that ruling, Mr President. I would invite the member, as I would all members, that if he has a concern about a donation or relationship, he should refer to the returns that are submitted by each local member following an election campaign that spell out, for all to see, donations made to each member. I remind the member that a donation that The Greens once received from a developer in the Hunter Valley was there for everyone to see, and we all had an opportunity to look at that. I would refer the member to the returns that have been submitted.
