TREASURY ADVICE ON RENEWABLE ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

The Hon. GREG PEARCE: I direct my question to the Treasurer. Has Treasury prepared or given the Treasurer advice relating to any scheme to create incentives for renewable energy? If so, did the advice refer to gross feed-in tariffs versus net feed-in tariffs for solar-generated electricity, and what was the advice? Has Treasury prepared or given the Treasurer advice on the financial risks and liabilities associated with climate change? If so, when, and what was the advice?
The Hon. ERIC ROOZENDAAL: I welcome the interest of the Hon. Greg Pearce in this matter, as it is one of the gross feed-in tariff initiatives announced only recently. Obviously the Government has had a lot of discussion about this issue, as is appropriate, and it is important for it to analyse these things. This Government is aiding recovery in the State at every turn. The economy is turning and unemployment has been reduced to 5.6 per cent, which is below the national average. Importantly, we have seen an improvement in retail sales. Businesses are voting with their feet and are moving to New South Wales. JB Hi-Fi has 17 new stores, Bunnings has 60 new stores, and Costco is opening a new warehouse and will locate its head office in Sydney.
Growth is occurring right across the State because of the Government's green shoots policy. A demonstration of the many facets of the Government is that it is not only aiding recovery and protecting as many jobs as possible in the State—it is supporting up to 160,000 jobs with its record infrastructure spend of $62.9 billion—it is also taking action to help the environment. I understand that the concept of doing two things at once is difficult for Coalition members because they are so preoccupied with infighting. I notice that David Clarke is not in the Chamber today.
The Hon. Greg Pearce: Point of order: The Treasurer was going quite well until he drifted off into irrelevancy. I asked him about any advice given to him relating to incentives for renewable energy schemes.
The Hon. ERIC ROOZENDAAL: I think David Clarke is pumping iron right now to take on Alex Hawke in a battle. I notice that Malcolm Turnbull lost one of his own staffers—
The Hon. Duncan Gay: Point of order: We have not received a ruling on an earlier point of order taken by the Hon. Greg Pearce.
The PRESIDENT: Order! I accept that. I ask the Minister to give a generally relevant answer.
The Hon. ERIC ROOZENDAAL: The member's question asked about energy. The Liberals, who could use some renewable energy, should stop wasting their energy on infighting. Malcolm Turnbull has already lost a staffer, caught up in the smear of attacking Alex Hawke. David Clarke's protégé, who has now turned into Frankenstein, is trying to consume David Clarke as they battle it out to see who could be more extreme on the Right of the Liberal Party. Poor Barry O'Farrell is shaking in his boots, worrying about who will take over the leadership. This Government will continue to govern for the people of New South Wales. It will continue to do the right thing by the environment and it will continue to do the right thing by the economy. In contrast, members of that rabble opposite do nothing other than fight and try to undermine one another.
