TOXIC FISH CONTAMINATION

The Hon. I. COHEN: I ask the Minister for Community Services, Minister for Aged Services, and Minister for Disability Services what caused the blisters found on two fish, one a black fish and the other a flathead, both popular recreational species, at Stockton and Lake Macquarie last week? What is the health risk for recreational fishers, catching, filleting or eating such fish? Can toxic contamination be eliminated from local noxious industries such as sandmining and power generation? What is the region over which fish are afflicted with this disease or contamination?

The Hon. R. D. DYER: I shall seek an answer from my colleague the Minister for Mineral Resources, and Minister for Fisheries.
