(Paper No. 8)
28 TRANSPORT—TIMBER SLEEPERS—Mrs Pavey to ask the Minister for Transport Services, Minister for the Hunter, and Minister Assisting the Minister for Natural Resources (Forests)—
2. How many timber sleepers, which are required for rail bridge maintenance, have been ordered from or sold by State Forests in the past 12 months?
3. (a) Is it true that no quality assurance program is in place for timber sleepers?
b. If so, is it true that despite this, 85% of stockpiled sleepers at Dimboola in the State’s south west have been rejected as unsuitable?
3. Is this because there is no suitable timber resource available from either the north coast or southern region state forests for vital railway maintenance?

Clerk of the Parliaments
