The use of victims' DNA (Inquiry)
This inquiry is a current Legislative Council inquiry conducted by the Law and Justice Committee.
The Standing Committee on Law and Justice has accepted terms of reference to inquire into the use of DNA material belonging to victims of crime, with particular reference to the adequacy of current policies, procedures and practices to protect DNA material belonging to victims and whether further restrictions on the use of such DNA material would be appropriate or desirable.
The terms of reference for the inquiry were referred by the Attorney General, the Hon John Hatzistergos MLC.
The Committee welcomes public participation in the inquiry process. The closing date for submissions was 26 August 2009. If you wish to make a submission to the inquiry, please contact the secretariat.
The Committee held public hearings on 25 September and 30 October 2009. The Committee is preparing its report.
