The Australasian Scrutiny of Legislation Conference is an important bi-annual conference of scrutiny of legislation committees which the Commonwealth and all the state Parliaments attend to discuss issues and experiences pertinent to legislative scrutiny. These conferences encompass both Australian and New Zealand Parliaments, similar to the Ministerial Councils which all NSW Ministers attend, and each of the Parliaments involved takes a turn hosting them. In 2007 it was the turn of the New Zealand Parliament. A delegation of Committee Members attended the 2007 Conference in Wellington between 31 July and 2 August at the New Zealand Parliament in Wellington and found it highly educational. The Conference also provided an excellent opportunity to focus on key issues, exchange ideas and gain an understanding of what is happening in similar jurisdictions.
